About Omar Khalid
Omar Khalid is the Principal of Vortex Innovation Labs LLC, and its primary architect and developer. He leads a team of software developers and designers that encompass full skill-set required for end-to-end project delivery.
He was first exposed to a computer when he was 7, learning from software tutorials of Apple II components and taking the computer apart. He started computer programming lessons coding in BASIC by the time he was 10.
He graduated from the University of Leeds, majoring in computer science, and started his first job porting code between Windows 3 and Windows 95 for a software house in England. He then worked as part of core engineering team developing the first contact-less smart card parking payment system in Malaysia, that still runs in production to this day.
While at Fujitsu Telecommunications Asia he reversed engineered Fujitsu's NMS/EMS to successfully deliver a software project that was deemed unfeasible. The success of his work caught the attention of Fujitsu's executives in Silicon Valley, and he was offered a position at the new spin-off of the company in Bay Area California. Omar spends his time between the California and Japan for next 9 years, delivering many successful projects to major Japanese companies and entities (telecommunication, transportation, government..).
In 2009 he founded Vortex Innovation Labs LLC, to provide software development consulting services for Silicon Valley tech companies.
When he is not writing software or learning new technologies, Omar enjoys mountain biking, playing the piano, and is an avid practitioner of Aikido. He lives in Dublin California with his wife and two children.
